Swishing, Smiling.... Always on my Mind.

Last night I opened a new bottle of Listerine. The “whitening” kind, but a new and improved formula. It was on the shelf at Target right next to the now outdated whitening formula, but it cost a dollar more and had a different label. As I stood at the bathroom sink swishing, I thought, “Oooh, I’ve gotta tell Mario about this stuff!”

And that’s how it happens. In a flash. Daily. Some little thing like mouthwash makes me think of him. Mario: always buying the “new” product – toothpaste, conditioner, lotion, juice, frozen food, you name it. Mario, the professional consumer. Mario, the constant entertainer. Mario, the adventurous cook, the thoughtful guy or the wild friend….

You see, the old mouthwash was really foamy in your mouth…. This new one still has the wonderful whitening properties, but your cheeks don’t get all full of foam and puffed out, causing you to have to spit out some of it before continuing to swish.

Maybe it’s strange: the thing that bothers me most is the stupid little things that I know he would have liked that he never got to see. A movie I saw the preview for. The Mudvayne album coming out I know he would have been excited about. The mouthwash. The recipe I just know he would have wanted to try. Even things like new businesses opening and old ones closing. I guess it kind of bothers me that the world continues on, even though his life doesn't….

Maybe some day I’ll be able to see a slender guy on a motorcycle in traffic and not have a certain feeling that it is Mario. Maybe eventually the urge to follow him “just to make sure” will fade. Maybe a day will come when I don’t think about him every day. I can tell you that day is a long, long time from now….

Mudvayne : Fish Out of Water Lyrics

i'm a fish out of water (i'm a fish out of water)
kill me and choke on the bones (kill me and choke on the bones)
nothing seems to matter anymore
gotta get back to the reason
gotta get back to the hole
someone throw me an anchor (someone throw me an anchor)
gotta drown this disease (gotta drown this disease)
no one seems to matter anymore
gotta get back to the meaning
gotta get back to the score

buy my soul
so you can sell me
i don't need this
i don't need you
trust your lies
then you betray me
i don't need want this
i don't want you

up the creek with no paddle (up the creek with no paddle)
through the oars of a board (through the oars of a board)
no one seems to carry at all anymore
gotta get back to the evening
gotta break backs of the poor
let me tell you a secret (let me tell you a secret)
so you can tattle and leave (so you can tattle and leave)
no one holds to their honesty anymore
gotta get back to the stealing
gotta take back from the hoard

buy my soul
so you can sell me
i don't need this
i don't need you
trust your lies
then you betray me
i don't want this
i don't want...

oh

i don't want you
who do you want to be
the summit of integrity
or the bottom of filth
the dichotomy
all these fallen angels
skeletons of what they once were
hanging in the closet for the world to see
and now they're fallen angels
faced by demons on their judgement
hanging from the gallows
for us all to see it

nobody told me
nobody forewarned
nobody told me
nobody forewarned

buy my soul
so you can sell me
i don't need this
i don't need you
trust your lies
then you betray me
i don't want this
i don't want you

This is the first time in I don't know how many years that a text message hasn't come through on my phone or an email shown up in my inbox with something like, dude, Mudvayne's new album is coming out in November, check out this song, it's awesome. Because I know how much Mario Frassetto enjoyed Mudvayne's music, especially reading the lyrics when the album first came out so he knew what they were saying, I decided to post my interpretation of Mudvayne's "Fish Out of Water" lyrics from their upcoming album, "The New Game." I think Mario would like this, considering these lyrics are impossible to find on the internet...

'WSUP'-radio : Fish Out of Water : Mudvayne

Some more Mudvayne...Super definitely had an impact on me regarding this band - it is by far my personal favorite. -Jeffy Chaucer

Click this link for a song from their newest album yet to be released, The New Game. The song is called Fish Out of Water.

MarioTV : Episode 14 : Mudvayne

So when Super heard that Mudvayne's new album, "By the People, For the People," was an amalgamation of alternate versions of old songs that fans voted for, and with only a few new tracks, he was somewhat disappointed. Of the new tracks, Dull Boy did give Super some reason to listen to the CD that he purchased out of mere allegiance to the band.

'WSUP'-radio : World So Cold : Mudvayne

So this may not have been considered by Super as one of his top songs by Mudvayne, but it would get the nod to be on his mp3 player every now and then. It really didn't meet Super's requirements to be included as his gym music...a little too slow and not hardcore enough. I think he would have gave the video a meh, so I present it here without. -Jeffy Chaucer

When passion's lost and all the trust is gone,
Way too far, for way too long
Children crying, cast out and neglected,
Only in a world so cold, only in a world
This cold
Hold the hand of your best friend, look into their eyes
Then watch them drift away
Some might say, we've done the wrong things,
For way too long, for way too long

Fever inside the storm,
So I'm turning away.
Away from the name
(Calling your names)
Away from the stones
(Throw sticks and stones)
'Cause I'm through mending the wounds of us

Keep your thorns
'Cause I'm running away,
Away from the games
(Fucking head games)
Away from the space
(Hate this head space)
The circumstances of a world so cold

Burning whispers, Remind me of the days,
I was left alone, in a world this cold
Guilty of the same things, provoked by
The cause,
I've left alone, in a world so cold
Fever inside the storm,
So I'm turning away.
Away from the name
(Calling your names)
Away from the stones
(Throw sticks and stones)
'Cause I'm through mending the wounds of us

Keep your thorns
'Cause I'm running away,
Away from the games
(Fucking head games)
Away from the space
(Hate this head space)
The circumstances of a world so cold

I'm flying, I'm flying away,
Away from the names
(Calling your names)
Away from the games
(Fucking head games)
The circumstances of a world so cold

Why does everyone feel like my enemy,
Don't want any part of depression or
Darkness, I've had enough
sick and tired, bring the sun, or I'm gone,
Or I'm gone

I'm backing out, I'm no pawn,
No mother-fucking slave to this,
Never lied
Never left
Never lived
Never loved
Never lost
Never hurt
Never worry about being me, or anyone else
Not a care, no concern, don't give a shit about
Anything

Backing out, giving up, no mother-fucking
Slave to this,
Never lied
Never left
Never lived
Never loved
Never lost
Never hurt
Never worry about being me, or anyone else
Not a care, no concern, don't give a shit about
Anything,

I need to find a darkened corner,
A lightless corner,
Where it's safer and calmer,

I'm turning away.
Away from the name
(Calling your names)
Away from the stones
(Throw sticks and stones)
'Cause I'm through mending the wounds of us

I'm running away,
Away from the games
(Fucking head games)
Away from the space
(Hate this head space)
The circumstances of a world so cold

I'm flying, I'm flying away,
Away from the names
(Calling your names)
Away from the games
(Fucking head games)
The circumstances of a world so cold

Super gets 86’d (by default) from an American Head Charge Concert

AHC was playing at a small, hole in the wall place called The Sets in Tempe, AZ. It’s a three-room split of a bar/pool hall/stage where mostly local bands play. The tickets were cheap, so Super and I decided to go. We ended up getting there early; there were a bunch of other bands opening and AHC was supposed to go on at 9pm, which meant around 10pm. We figured that we would just post up at the bar and get our pre-concert drink on.

Most of the time when Super and I went out, we would pretty much match drink for drink; in this particular case, Super was out drinking me 3 to 1 at the beginning, figuring that he would be good to go by the time AHC took the stage. He was also drinking a little of a variety that night, for no particular reason. I can recall now: a Bud Light, Miller Lite, Pabst, vodka seven, vodka cranberry, vodka Red Bull, lemon drop martini, vodka martini, a shot of Patron- yeah, I’m missing a few- he was doubling up on some also.

It was now after 10pm and we were getting a little restless about waiting for AHC to get on when Super pointed to the other side of the bar and there was the band standing there. Well, I guess they’re not going on any time soon. Naturally, Super had to go over to talk to the band: I decided to say put. A few minutes later I see them all downing shots together…only Super. He comes back with a big smile on his face, telling me that he had to ask the vocalist, Martin Cock, AKA Cameron Heacock, what the hell are you doing playing in a shit hole place like this? At first, he wasn’t too happy, thinking that Super was putting the band down, but Super quickly explained that he was a big fan and he was just wondering what was up, a little weird for a mainstream band to be playing in a crap house. Just as Super was telling me the story, the band comes on over and orders us all a round of Patron…and then another…and another.

The band heads off to get ready and I decided to shoot a little pool until they took the stage, while Super decided to head into that area. By that time, pretty much everyone was at the stage, so I just messed around on the table. About a half an hour passed by and I still didn’t hear the band on stage yet when all of a sudden Super comes up to me and says, lets bolt. I asked what was up and Super tells me that he tried to order a beer at the bar in that area and they turned him away. Super being Super, he headed over to the beer tub nearby to get a drink, thinking that it would be a way around the shenanigans, when that chick turned him down as well. I asked him if he did anything, thinking back to the Mudvayne concert, and he informs me that he had not. Apparently, the bartenders where we were at all night walkie-talkied over and told them to cut Super off, even though he hadn’t done anything to warrant such an action. I agreed with him that we should just leave, even without seeing AHC perform- hell, we had drinks with them, that was better- and we exited. The funny thing was that as we were leaving, the security people said “take care Mario” and asked me if I was driving. I asked Super how the hell they knew his name. "I have no idea man."

A little of what we probably missed...

'WSUP'-radio : The Outsider Remix : A Perfect Circle

I wanted to have JC put this up as MarioTV, but there is no video for the apocalypse remix. Although not as popular as Determined by Mudvayne, for obvious reasons (see MarioTV Episode 2), Super and I would often blast this in the car on the way out to the bars.

I think more than the lyrics, which are great as well, the tempo of it is the key...it eases you into the song and "would sharpen you up and make you ready for a bit of the old Ultra-Violence."

(That's a quote from "A Clockwork Orange" by the way, if you are not up to snuff on the movies.)

-Jeffy Chaucer
(Hey, I actually got through that without swearing. Fucking A!)

The Outsider [Resident Renholder Mix] : A Perfect Circle

Help me if you can,
Its just that this, is not the way im wired
So could you please,
Help me understand why,
You're giving into all these reckless dark desires you're...

Lying to yourself again,
Suicidal imbecile,
Put it on the fault line,
What will it take to get it through to you precious?
Why would I, Why would I, Why would I wanna watch you....

Disconnect and self destruct one bullet at a time.
Whats your rush now, everyone will have his day to die.

Medicated, drama queen, picture perfect numb beligerance.
Narcissistic, drama queen, craving fame and all its decadence.

Lying through your teeth again,
Suicidal imbecile,
Think about it,
Put it on the fault line.
What'll it take to get it through to you precious?
Over this,
Why do you wanna throw it away like this?
Such a mess I dont wanna watch you...

Disconnect and self-destruct one bullet at a time,
What's your rush now, everyone will have his day to die.

Lying to my face again,
Suicidal imbecile,
Think about it, put it on the fault line.
What'll it take to get it through to you precious?
Why do you wanna throw it away like this?
Such a mess...
Come to this, Come to this

Everyone will have his day to die.
Disconnect and self-destruct
Disconnect and self-destruct
Come to this!

First : Super Sunday!

This'll be the first Super Sunday of many, I hope. Courtesy of the volumes of memories I have with my good friend, Mr. Mario Frassetto.

There are some residual emotions runnin' over from the Hardcore Since '74 story, but I'm gonna give it a rest for a few days. It's the least I could do! :) This is assuming that the Frassetto family is ok with me continuing. I think the most detailed post about the hidden side of Super is out in the open now (aside from that other thing), and well, there isn't much going back. I was pleased to write it up, but something in the back of my mind kept telling me to delete the entire thing and put a cork in it. I truly hope it didn't freak anyone out. If it's any consolation, I'm slightly traumatized by all the research I had to do for the story, does that count? Haha.

Multiple things are in the works for this week. MarioTV episodes will be up, another YouTube video Super would approve of, as well as a couple other small posts from me. Jeff is moving to Philadelphia tomorrow and once he gets settled in he and I are going to work on the Nine Inch Nails in Phoenix story together, which is another doozie I (we) cannot wait to share. It should be an interesting read mainly because you'll get the first half of the night from Jeff, and the second half of the night from me. Somewhat Tipsy versus Completely Sober, that sorta thing. I'm tempted to just throw the pictures up and let 'em speak for themselves, but the story is a show stopper and it must be told.

I have another post similar to The Vacuum Earth that I'm also working on that may take awhile. It's nowhere near the length of the Hustler Helmet story (thank goodness), however, so far it has been the most difficult thing for me to write.

Last but not least before I fall asleep, I wanted to post this picture as a follow-up to the post Jeff did about Mario getting 86'd from the Mudvayne concert in Vegas. What's really hilarious about this picture is that it's titled exactly as it looks: "evilsanwich01." Why was it evil? Well, not only did Super have a hell of a night after getting shanghai'd at the concert, Jeff and I took him to get something to eat afterwards (to help soak up some of the pre-concert drinks he had) and low and behold, he got food poisoning from said sandwich. Hence, evilsanwich was born and quite frankly, I'm not sure he ever fully recovered from that night. Even mentioning the words "Hard Rock" within earshot was grounds for a small fracas, given the situation and the effects of the food.

The picture sure is funny though...

Arrrrrrgh!

Super gets 86'd from Mudvayne at The Joint

For Super’s first trip to Vegas, going to see Mudvayne while we were there was a no brainer. It was being held at The Joint at Hard Rock, a small venue that ensured it would be an awesome show. Super, JC and I arrived a couple hours before the show to get our pre-drink on. Super of course was making the rounds, sharing stories of his past Mudvayne concert experiences with others and also getting into his concert mood. He changed into his concert clothes, entered the venue and immediately headed for the bar to get another drink - you can see that he had a Mudvayne shirt on pre-show, but took it off prior to entering the venue: the only time you should wear a band's shirt at the concert is if you are actually part of the band, otherwise you’re just a dork.

[Super being Super, those people didn’t even know him a minute ago!]

JC and I decided to stake out a spot midway back, knowing that we most likely would only see Super for brief periods between his crowd surfing. Shortly thereafter, Mudvayne took the stage and we could see the first person up and over naturally was Super. Mudvayne only played a few songs since they were opening for Korn, so they were not on stage for long. It did seem sort of weird, however, that we hadn’t even seen Super make a quick pass by us before going up and over again. Hell, maybe he decided to hang in the pit or next to a hot ass chick, that sort of thing was very plausible.

We had decided not to stay for Korn prior to the show…there is other shit to do in Vegas…so we headed to the exit to meet Super. Well, to our surprise, Super was already outside by the ticket counter. We were at first wondering ‘what the fuck?’ until he showed us big ass red mark on his hand. He told us that he had been outside trying to get back in the whole time. After his first trip over the barricade, instead of security showing him the way back onto the floor, they showed him the door…apparently crowd surfing was prohibited and signs were posted as a warning. So where were these magical signs? Ah, most likely large and numerous and for all to see. Well, we took a photo of the sign…enough said.

[The obvious, can’t miss, right in front of your face, brightly lit sign]

Anyways, Super was none too happy as you would expect, so after a little persuasion, we headed out of there without further incident back to the hotel (thankfully we were not staying at the Hard Rock…for their sake) and vowed never to return to the shit box known as The Joint again.

Super…just back to the hotel after “the show”

Super…30 minutes later after a few drinks and some pharmaceutical help from me.

MarioTV : Episode 2: Mudvayne

Welcome back to another round of MarioTV. Today's lesson is Metalurgy, 101.

Nothing like a double dose of Mudvayne and the song "Determined" to get your weekend started right. Or Fucking Determined, as someone once called it. Most definitely one of his favorites.

The first video is the studio version of Mudvayne recording their music. Personally, I like watching Chad Gray sing the song the way it is heard on the album today. I don't know how his vocals hold up the way they do; that guy really rips into the lyrics with every single breath he takes. I wasn't a Mudvayne fan whatsoever until Mario was like, "here, try this." I beefed up my iPod with this stuff and it hasn't left since. Great gym music for sure!

The second video is the video release, which I'm sure Super would prefer. After all, he was a mosh pit and crowd surf expert. Well, except that one time. But, more on that later. I thought putting the vids up would be more appropriate. During my next storytime, I'll get to The Joint and the Hard Rock "86'd" incident that Chaucer was referring to yesterday.

Mudvayne : Determined

Go...
So fucking determined!
Yeah, yeah go...
You better believe it! Confidence!
Go...
So fucking determined!
Yeah, yeah go...
Spit out all reason!
Yeah!

I'm tired of holding up the weight, the weight of the motherfucking world!
All I want is to just get right here, right now!
We struggle and fight just to get in the grave, that's overflowing!
Clocks ticking on my fifteen minutes of fame, come On now!
123 Go!

Go...
So fucking determined!
Yeah, yeah go...
You better believe it! Confidence!
Go...
So fucking determined!
Yeah, yeah go...
Spit out all reason!
Yeah!

I'm flushing the trust of everyone, stabbing in the back and thinkin' they can break me!
Set my sight, can't die till I'm done, mind endurance!
Never wanted anymore than what I deserve, better bring it I'm taking it all!
Fuck an inch 'cause I'm bringin' a mile, it's on now 123 go!

Go...
So fucking determined!
Yeah, yeah go...
You better believe it! Confidence!
Go...
So fucking determined!
Yeah, yeah go...
Spit out all reason!
Yeah!

This fire, is growing, is burning deep inside of me, focused, driven, certain, the way it's got to be.
Fire, growing, burning. Deep inside of me, focused, driven, certain, the way it's got to be.
Crooked, no trust, liars, conmen, drunk with, power, mentor, taught me everything that I know...
So wrong,
Wrong,
Wrong,
Wrong...
123 Go...

So fucking determined!
Yeah, yeah go...
You better believe it! Confidence!
Go...
So fucking determined!
Yeah, yeah go...
Spit out all reason!
Yeah!
Go...
I'm fucking determined!
Yeah, yeah go...
You better believe it! Confidence!
Go...
I'm fucking determined!
Yeah, yeah go...
Spit out all reason!
Yeah!

Rocking out at the Hard Rock in Vegas

So I had to post this pic for Super…that’s him with Vinnie Paul (from Pantera and most recently Hell Yeah, in case you didn’t know) at the Hard Rock in Vegas. It was the day before JC arrived and the infamous Super getting eighty-sixed from the Mudvayne concert…story and pics later. I was getting my ass reamed at the black jack table as usual and Super was bouncing around “being Super” when he came up to me stoked ass hell, pointing him out at a table across the way. Later that night we were circling the bar and casino when we passed Vinnie Paul, so of course he asked to get his picture taken…that shit made his day and unfortunately was pretty much the highlight of his first trip to Vegas (later trips turned out fucking worlds better).
